Nepalese Army on Monday marked its Army DayKathmandu, / Nepalese Army on Monday marked its Army Day-2012 at the Army ground, Tundikhel on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri festival.

 

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Constituent
Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang and chiefs of other constitutional body members of the nation were present to observe the carnival during the Army Day.

On the occasion, President Dr. Yadav released a journal entitled Sipahi at the end of programme.

Vice President Paramananda Jha, Chief justice Khila Raj Regmi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence and Home Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar were present to witness a special function of the participating troops.

Members of the diplomatic mission offices were also present to observe the programmes. President Dr. Yadav conferred prizes and certificates to winners who participated in Free-fall jump and guest events organized only for the staff of the Kathmandu based diplomatic mission offices.

Special performances of Nepal Army troops

On the occasion, the army troops have displayed air formation, khukuris and weapons, shoot to kill, vehicles and heavy equipment and raid and rescue drills, march pass, free fall jump, band display, dogs show, among others.

At the function, feu-de-joie (Badhain) from rifles by individual army personnel and volley fire from participating troops and salvo fire (Top) from nine pounder, two pounder and seven pounder guns by Rajdal Battalion were also the main attraction of the day.

The participated troops also displayed Special Forces Group, Ferret Car, APC and Recovery vans, UN vehicles, Field artillery guns and air defense artillery guns, bomb disposal, disaster rescue equipment, signal equipment, mobile hospital, presentation of construction and development equipments.

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gen Chhatra Man Singh Gurung handed over presentation of colours by Hanumdhoj, Birbhadrajung, Ranadal, Shreedal, Ramban, Indradal, Shatrumardan, Samarsur, Devibox and Tripuradal companies.
