Prachanda, Nepal agree to find common groundKathmandu, Feb. 19 / Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' Sunday called on senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal and held discussions with him over the need of assisting each other to conclude the ongoing peace process.

At the meeting held at the residence of leader Nepal in Koteshwor, two communist leaders held discussions that focused on the latest political situation of the country.

Speaking with The Rising Nepal, personal aide to the Chairman Prachanda, Shiva Khakurel said that the Maoist chairman appealed with leader Nepal to lend a hand in concluding the peace and constitution writing processes.

According to Khakurel, the two leaders talked about the issues related to army integration, peace and constitution writing process and recent political scenario.

Issuing a press statement, the private secretariat of leader Nepal informed that during the meeting, the leaders discussed the issues related to ongoing peace process, constitution writing, formation of a national consensus government and economic and social transformation in the country.

Nepal emphasized that there was no possibility of concluding the ongoing peace if the Maoist party failed to respect the earlier agreements.

The press statement further stated that Prachanda said that his party was firm to conclude the peace process and appealed the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress to play positive role.

Nepal requested Prachanda not to create hurdles in determining rankings for the combatants to be integrated and added that integration process

should not undermine the neutrality and professionalism of Nepali army.

The two leaders agreed to strike a common consensus amongst the major political parties for the economic-social transformation of the nation. They reiterated on the need of strengthening the collaboration among the political parties to institutionalize the political achievements and the federal republic model of Nepal, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Senior leader of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal has said the peace process failed to speed up because the UCPN-Maoist has taken the army integration as a tactic to capture the state authority.

Inaugurating the first central conference of the employees' union at the National Nature Conservation Trust here on Sunday, leader Nepal said the peace process and the constitution-writing could not expedite before finalizing the army integration and management of the arms.

He accused the Nepal Army of politicking by making propagandas in the army integration.

Leader Nepal argued that former fighters could not be offered officers' level until they came up with training and bridge course.

As the change in government changes chiefs in various corporations, the repute of the corporation is waning. So, it was high time the concerned bodies selected competent persons and created favourable atmosphere for them to work, he suggested.

Meanwhile, general secretary of the CPN-UML, Ishwor Pokhrel reiterated that peace process could not conclude until dismantling the war-era structure of the UCPN-Maoist.

He was speaking at a programme organized by party's department of industry and labour.
